A Nepalese tourist visa can be obtained on arrival as it is very easy at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu. Also, you can get a visa at border entry points in Kakadvitta, Birgunj, Bhairawa, Nepalgunj, Gaddachowki on the Nepal-Indian border, and Kodari on Nepal-China border. Furthermore, you may get your tourist visa in your home country at the nearest Nepal Embassy or Diplomatic Mission.
You can renew your visa at the Department of Immigration, Kalikasthan, Kathmandu, Nepal. Every visa requires a valid passport and one passport-sized photo. The photo should have a light background. The Immigration Department has not specified the size of the passport-size photo; however, a standard US passport photo size is ok.

- To obtain a visa, you must pay the fee in cash with one of the following currencies: Euro, Swiss Franc, Pound Sterling, US Dollar, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar and Japanese Yen. Credit or debit cards, Indian currency and Nepali currency are not accepted as a form of payment for the visa fee.
Tourists visiting Nepal can apply for a 15 Days, 30 Days, or 90 Days visa. These visas allow single or multiple entries, depending on the traveler's needs. The 15 Days visa is ideal for travelers on a short trip, while the 30 Days and 90 Days visas are suitable for those planning an extended stay in Nepal.
Visa Fee
The cost of the tourist visa varies depending on the duration of stay. The visa fee must be paid in cash, in US dollars, euros, British pounds, or other major currencies, at the airport or border entry point.

- Multiple entry 90 days US$ 125 or equivalent convertible currency
Visitors can extend their visa for a maximum of 150 days per calendar year at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu, Pokhara, or other immigration offices in the country. To extend the visa, travelers must submit their passport, a completed visa. The extension fee for a 15 Days visa is USD 45, while for a 30 Days visa, it is USD 75. The extension fee for a 90 Days visa is USD 300.
Other Visa Information
- Visa On Arrival: Visitors can obtain a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and other entry points in Nepal, including land borders with India and China. To obtain a visa on arrival, travelers must fill out a visa application form and provide a passport-sized photo. Payment for the visa fee must be made in cash.
- Required Documents: To apply for a tourist visa, visitors need a valid passport with at least six months of validity and one passport-sized photograph. The passport should also have a blank page for the visa stamp.
- Visa Application: Visitors can apply for a visa at Nepalese embassies or consulates abroad or upon arrival in Nepal. Online visa application is also available. To apply for a visa online, travelers need to fill out an electronic visa application form and pay the visa fee online using a credit card. After submitting the application, the traveler will receive an electronic visa, which they must print and carry with them to present at the border entry point.
- Visa Exemption: Indian nationals do not require a visa to enter Nepal. As per the Nepalese Immigration, Indian Nationals traveling to Nepal by air must possess any one of the following documents. Either a Passport or an election commission card.
- Additionally, nationals of certain countries can enter Nepal without a visa for a limited period. For example, citizens of the Maldives can stay in Nepal for up to 90 days without a visa. Other countries that have visa exemption agreements with Nepal include Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka.
No visa required for
- Any foreigner who has stayed in Nepal up to fifteen (15) days continuously and re-enters Nepal during the same visa year.
Do's and Don'ts
- A tourist may stay in Nepal up to 150 days in a visa year.
- A tourist must extend his/her visa before expiry of the visa validity period. A tourist who does not comply with these regulations may be liable of fine and other prosecution as provided in the Immigration Act and Rules.
- A foreigner having obtained a tourist visa shall not be allowed to work with or without receiving remuneration.
- A foreigner shall not be allowed to carry out any work other than that for which purpose s/he has obtained the visa.
